About the Programme
The 2010 event programme has been aligned to the ambitions and aims of the Quality Strategy. It will examine the most recent thinking in healthcare quality and present an opportunity to share, discuss, learn and hear about the different developments in quality healthcare and how these link with the new NHSScotland Quality Strategy.
The programme will also feature a number of local, national and international speakers who will share the most recent thinking in healthcare quality. It will also bring together the most innovative and motivated professionals in NHSScotland, making it the most important healthcare quality improvement forum in the country.
The event is free and open to anyone who works in, and with, the NHS in Scotland and should be attended by anyone who has an interest in improving services in NHSScotland. It will feature a variety of interactive sessions including plenary sessions, parallel sessions, focus groups, breakfast and lunchtime sessions. Regardless of your area of speciality, the event offers an number of opportunities to further your knowledge or learn about a new topic.
The programme will cover the following six strands of quality. These have been devised to help focus discussions:
Person-Centredness
Putting people at the centre of care and providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs and values.
Clinical Effectiveness
Providing services based on scientific knowledge to all who could benefit and refraining from providing services to those not likely to benefit.
Safety
Avoiding injuries or harm to patients from the care that is intended to help them.
Building Capacity for Quality Improvement
Ensuring that every member of staff has the knowledge and skills to improve patient care.
Efficiency and Productivity
Utilising the available resources in the most efficient way. Avoiding waste, in particular waste of equipment, supplies, ideas and energy for increased productivity.
Mutuality and Equality
Working in partnership with patients, carers, staff and the public to provide health services that are responsive to the individual needs and circumstances of people’s lives and that recognise the impact of prejudice, discrimination and exclusion on health inequalities.
