Lunchtime Sessions - 7 June 2010 13.05 - 13.45

These sessions will last approximately 40 mins and will cover the following topics:

Voices Scotland - Promoting a Mutual NHS

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) developed the Voices Scotland Programme, working with NHS Boards, to help them achieve the vision of a mutual NHS through meaningful patient/carer involvement. The innovative Stroke Voices Project demonstrates how to effectively engage with people living with accessibility, communication and cognitive problems; the first project of its kind for long term conditions. We will be formally launching Stroke Voices and sharing techniques and learning from its development; relevant across other long term conditions.

Improvement Science at the Beside: Running with the SPSP Baton in ICU

This interactive session will be entertaining and cover practical aspects of improvement science in the context of Scottish intensive care practice. By the end of the session attendees will have a practical understanding of and be able to describe model for improvement, measurement, common pitfalls and successful strategies for improving care in today’s NHSScotland. The session will be run by three Scottish Patient Safety Programme fellows who are consultants in intensive care with interest in ongoing learning and improvement methodology.

Quality Workforce through Quality Planning

Working in partnership, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and Skills for Health present a range of tools which support both workforce planning and workforce development. This session will showcase the tools and resources which both organisations offer, along with the opportunity for delegates to discuss how they might be used in their own context.

HAI and Antibiotic Prescribing - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

HAI remains a top priority for NHSScotland and it is a key patient safety issue. Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) are working with NHS Boards to improve the use of antimicrobials contributing to a sustainable reduction in infections. This session will outline SAPG’s current work programme and plans for future work including integration of quality improvement initiatives with the Scottish Patient Safety Programme.
